A WSU faculty member from 1964 to 1997, Walter Butcher remains active in advising graduate students and participating in environmental and international research projects. He is being honored for his outstanding and continuing contributions to understanding agricultural and economic development in developing countries.
Dr. Butcher specializes in the economics of natural resource development, conservation, and policy analysis, especially relating to agriculture, water, and electricity resources. He has completed international assignments in the Mideast, Africa, East Asia, and the former Soviet Union as consultant and adviser on agricultural development, planning, and natural resource policy.
